Yellow Figure Bending Among Cacti/Desert Landscape (Original)

I made this artwork thinking about all the ways we bend in submission to others and society. This artwork can have multiple meanings and I encourage you to interpret  it, it's what you bring to the image. For me, she is impaled by the phallic cactus. Plain and simple but yes, grotesque. She crawls in submission with a pleasant look on her face, because what else can she really do? The happy colors belie the undertone of a darker message. OR, is she a dominatrix and has complete control of the situation? Who am I to say, really?

I started this composition by painting with acrylics first, creating the space and shapes. I complete with acrylic markers and artist pens and inks.
